The benchmark BSE Sensex dropped by over 70 points in early trade Wednesday on ahead of the outcome of the US Federal Reserve's policy meet.
The 30-share barometer, which rose 298.67 points in the previous session, fell by 69.33 points, or 0.24 percent, to 28,667.05 after moving in range of 28,599.88 - 28,806.97.
On similar lines, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty eased by 15.85 points, or 0.18 percent, at 8,707.45.
Brokers said selective buying by funds and retailers amid a mixed trend at other Asian markets ahead of a policy announcement by the US Federal Reserve influenced trading sentiments.
Among other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up by 0.94 percent while Japan's Nikkei fell 0.07 percent in early trade today.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.71 per cent lower in yesterday's trade.
