Nifty hits 8500 level, Sensex gains 180 points in morning trade

The equity market opened the session in the green on sustained buying by foreign funds and retail investors amid positive global cues.

New Delhi: Markets on Monday hit new highs in opening trade on sustained capital inflows buoyed by positive domestic and global cues. The National Stock Exchange index Nifty breached the 8,500-mark for the first time to hit a new peak of 8,529 by gaining 51.65 points, or 0.60 per cent.

The benchmark BSE Sensex climbed 180.35 points, or 0.63 per cent, to trade at a new high of 28,514.98, breaking its previous record of 28,360.66 reached on November 21.

The equity market opened the session in the green on sustained buying by foreign funds and retail investors amid positive global cues.

The focus of investors' will remain on further policy announcements, if any, by the government. The month-long winter session of Parliament will start from today.

The Reserve Bank of India is scheduled to release the current account deficit (CAD) numbers for the second quarter on Monday.

The Asian shares were also higher on Monday as the prospect of further policy stimulus in China and Europe whetted risk appetites while sending the euro skidding.
