Mumbai: The rupee fell by 11 paise to 60.93 against the US dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market due to increased demand for the US currency from importers.

Forex dealers said besides a lower opening in the domestic equity markets, increased demand from importers for the American unit put pressure on the rupee but dollar's weakness against other currencies overseas capped losses.

The rupee closed one paisa down at 60.82 against the US dollar in the previous session on alternate bouts of demand and supply in yesterday's trade.

Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex fell marginally by 20.66 points, or 0.07 percent, to 27,186.08 in early trade today.
