Rupee down 13 paise at 63.28 against US dollar

Forex dealers said besides month-end demand for the US dollar, a lower opening in the domestic equity market weighed on the rupee.

Mumbai: The rupee turned weak on Wednesday by 13 paise to 63.28 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange due to month-end demand for the American currency from importers.

Forex dealers said besides month-end demand for the US dollar, a lower opening in the domestic equity market weighed on the rupee.

They said, however, dollar's weakness against other currencies overseas on weaker US data capped the rupee's fall.

The rupee had gained 33 paise to close at 63.15 against the American currency in yesterday's trade on persistent selling of dollars by banks and exporters.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex fell by 108.97 points, or 0.39 per cent, at 27,287.41 in early trade.
