Rupee down 15 paise to 60.82 against dollar

The domestic currency had gained nine paise to close at nearly three-week high of 60.67 against the American unit in yesterday.

Mumbai: Snapping its two-day rising streak, the rupee fell by 15 paise to 60.82 against the US currency in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today due to the dollar's gain against other units overseas.

Forex dealers said besides the dollar's gain against other currencies on upbeat economic data, fresh demand for the American unit from importers put pressure on the rupee but a higher opening in the domestic equity market capped the losses.

The domestic currency had gained nine paise to close at nearly three-week high of 60.67 against the American unit in yesterday's trade on the back of sustained dollar selling by exporters and a surge in local stocks.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex gained 36 points, or 0.14 percent, to 26,456.67 in early trade today.
