Mumbai: Continuing its winning run for the fourth straight day, the rupee strengthened by 11 paise to 63.40 against the US dollar in early trade Friday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on sustained selling of the American currency by exporters.

Forex dealers said a weakening dollar against other currencies overseas on disappointing US employment data and a higher opening in the domestic equity market supported the rupee.

The local currency had gained 10 paise to close at 63.51 against the US dollar yesterday on continued selling of the greenback by banks and exporters.

The benchmark BSE Sensex rose 37.59 points, or 0.13 percent, to 27,983.39 in early trade today.
