Mumbai: A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex) provisionally closed Monday`s trade down 628 points or 2.13 percent.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also closed the day`s trade with heavy losses. It was down 195.45 points or 2.19 percent at 8,742.30 points (provisionally closed subject to change).
The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 29,316.54 points, closed the day`s trade at 28,820.68 points (at 3.30 p.m.), down 628.27 points or 2.13 percent from the previous day`s close at 29,448.95 points.
The Sensex had touched a high of 29,321.06 points and a low of 28,806.42 points in the intra-day trade.
