Sensex, Nifty falter after hitting record high

The benchmark BSE Sensex moved southwards after hitting another life-time high of 25,711.11 in early trade Tuesday.

The 30-share index Sensex, which had gained nearly 775 points in the previous three sessions, up by another 130.90 points, or 0.51 percent, to trade at fresh record high of 25,711.11 in the opening trade today. The gauge had touched intra-day high of 25,644.77 yesterday.

It last quoted down by 152.44 points or 0.60 percent at 25,427.77.

The NSE Nifty also maintained its record run by gaining 28.60 points, or 0.37 percent, to hit a new all-time high of 7,683.20, surpassing its previous intra-day high of 7,673.70 reached yesterday. It last quoted lower by 50.95 points or 0.67 percent at 7,603.65.

Housing Development Finance Corp falls 1.1 percent while Oil and Natural Gas Corp is down 2 percent.

Investors point to some caution ahead of retail inflation data for May and factory output for April on Thursday.

Among other Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei shed 0.44 percent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.31 percent in early trade today.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.11 percent higher in yesterday's trade.
