New Delhi: The benchmark indices, S&P BSE Sensex and CNX Nifty, on Monday closed at record highs after the prospect of further policy stimulus in China and Europe whetted risk appetite globally, while expectations of more reforms during the ongoing winter session of parliament also helped.
The Nifty hit 8,500 levels for the first time and rallied to 8,534 at its day's high while the Sensex rose to 28,541 levels.
The Sensex gained 164.91 points to end at a new peak of 28,499.54. NSE Nifty closed 52.80 points higher at 8,530.15.
Metal stocks were among the biggest gainers today, buoyed by a rate cut in China which is one of the biggest consumers of commodities.
Global markets rallied on Monday after China's surprise rate cut on Friday and European Central Bank President Mario Draghi promising more stimulus measures to fighting deflation in the continent.
