The benchmark BSE Sensex pared its early losses and moved higher by nearly 80 points in second hour of trade Wednesday on fresh buying in oil & gas, FMCG, health care, metal, auto, teck and IT stocks.
The 30-share barometer gained by 74.47 points, or 0.29 percent, to 25,955.24. The index had gained 551.63 points in the previous two sessions.
Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty climbed by 25.80 points, or 0.33 percent, to 7,752.85.
Among other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was down by 0.09 percent, while Japan's Nikkei moved up by 0.16 percent in early trade.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.06 percent lower in yesterday's trade.
