New Delhi: The BSE benchmark Sensex fell over 314 points on Monday to close at 27,643.88 points. This is the biggest fall since May 12 this year.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also ended in the red. It was down 88 points at 8,370.25 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 27,903.29 points and a low of 27,624.58 points in the intra-day trade of the day.

According to Angel Broking, Indian markets opened on a positive note tracking SGX Nifty and most of the Asian markets.

It was observed that the Indian markets were mainly impacted due to the hawkish remarks made by Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen, who said the US central bank will likely raise interest rates within this year.

The markets are cautious about the US Fed's stand that the rate hike might take place in the later part of the year.

Trading was subdued given US and UK markets will be closed on Monday for respective holidays.
