Sensex zooms over 550 points, Nifty reclaims 7,900-mark

The Sensex resumed higher at 25,432.10 and hovered in a range of 25,884.78 and 25,430.59 before quoting at 25,877.02, up by 571.55 points or 2.26 percent from its last close.

Sensex zooms over 550 points, Nifty reclaims 7,900-mark

The BSE benchmark Sensex soared over 550 points and the Nifty reclaimed the 7,900-mark in afternoon trade Wednesday on all-round buying mainly in banking, finance, IT and Teck sectors amid gains in global stocks.

The Sensex resumed higher at 25,432.10 and hovered in a range of 25,884.78 and 25,430.59 before quoting at 25,877.02, up by 571.55 points or 2.26 percent from its last close.

The NSE 50-share Nifty also rose by 178.35 points or 2.30 percent to quote at 7,927.20.

 

Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 815.53 crore yesterday, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges.

In overseas stock markets, Asian equities edged higher after encouraging reports on the US housing market saw sharp gains in US stocks overnight.

Hong Kong added 2.6 percent in afternoon trade while Taipei, Manila and Singapore were all above or hovering around the one percent mark.

Sydney closed 1.5 percent higher and Seoul ended up 1.2 percent. Shanghai flitted in and out of positive territory to close 0.23 percent lower.

Tokyo surged 1.6 percent during the session, as the dollar advanced against the Japanese currency.
