Shaktikanta Das takes charge as Economic Affairs Secretary

Senior IAS officer Shaktikanta Das has taken charge as the Secretary for Department of Economic Affairs in the Finance Ministry.

New Delhi: Senior IAS officer Shaktikanta Das has taken charge as the Secretary for Department of Economic Affairs in the Finance Ministry.

Das, 58, was earlier holding the assignment of Secretary, Department of Revenue in the same ministry.

He held a meeting with the senior officers of the department and reviewed the status of various issues being dealt in the department, Finance Ministry said in a statement.

Hasmukh Adhia, a 1981 batch IAS officer, who headed the Department of Financial Services, has also taken over as Revenue Secretary, it added.

Later, speaking to reporters, Adhia said his priorities, among others, would be to bring more transparency in the functioning of the Department of Revenue through the optimum use of Information Technology (IT) and simplification of rules and procedures for better tax administration.

According to the statement, the Revenue Secretary said he will review the GST readiness for both central and state governments so that it is implemented in a time bound manner soon after the GST Constitution Amendment Bill is passed by the

Parliament and ratified by the state legislatures.

Adhia also sought suggestions regarding tax reforms, including rules and procedures from people at large.
