Amsterdam eyes double-digit growth in Indian tourists in 2015

The capital city of the Netherlands is looking at a double-digit growth in the numbers of Indian tourists visiting the city in 2015 as it hardsells itself as a preferred tourist destination.

New Delhi: The capital city of the Netherlands is looking at a double-digit growth in the numbers of Indian tourists visiting the city in 2015 as it hardsells itself as a preferred tourist destination.

"We expect a double-digit growth in the number of Indians visiting Amsterdam this year," Amsterdam Marketing Chief Executive Officer Frans van der Avert told PTI.

Amsterdam Marketing is responsible for promoting the region.

The Indian tourists are attracted to the museums and architecture of Amsterdam. They are also attracted to canals, flowers and wind mills the city offers, he added.

On the initiatives Amsterdam Marketing is taking, Avert said: "It is through the publicity initiatives we are taking and through the people in the travel business here. It is also through increasing the contacts with people."

Apart from the world famous attractions such as museums including, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk among others, Indians also come to visit friends and relatives, he added.

"The city has a very large Indian community and is also home to many Indian companies," Avert said.

Amsterdam attracts around 4.6 million visitors from all nationalities and who stay a total of around 8.6 million nights.
