JPMorgan's Dimon says cancer treatment successful

JPMorgan Chase chief executive Jamie Dimon told bank employees Friday that his throat cancer has disappeared after three months of treatment.

New York: JPMorgan Chase chief executive Jamie Dimon told bank employees Friday that his throat cancer has disappeared after three months of treatment.

"The good news is that the results came back completely clear, showing no evidence of cancer in my body," he said in a letter to employees that was provided to AFP.

"While the monitoring will continue for several years, the results are extremely positive and my prognosis remains excellent."

"As always, and especially since my diagnosis, I followed the advice I give to others -- take care of your health first -- nothing is more important," he added.

Dimon, 58, disclosed the cancer diagnosis on July 1, and cut back his schedule to undergo treatment.

That announcement had worried investors after Dimon successfully took the huge bank through the 2008 financial sector collapse.

The bank has generated strong profits since then, despite a series of multi-billion-dollar penalties for trading and marketing violations during and since the economic crisis.

JPMorgan`s shares were up 2.2 percent to $62.70 in morning trade Friday, amid a general surge in bank stocks on the back of a strong US jobs report for November.
