Kolkata: Malaysia has expressed keen interest in trade in both investment and services getting started as part of the Indo-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement (FTA), an official of the Malaysian High Commission in India said.

"Both India and Malaysia have agreed in principle that trade in investment and services will commence between the two countries", minister counselor (economic) of the High Commission Aida Shafinaz Alias said at a CII session here on Saturday.

She said that in spite of that, the trade in these two items had not started.

Alias said there could be issues between India and other ASEAN nations due to which this was not happening.

"Now with the Indo-Malaysia FTA being reviewed, this aspect should be a part of that (efforts to begin trade in investment and services)", Alias said.

She also said there were various tariff and non-tariff barriers which were hindering trade with India.
