Fake Apple factory worth $19 mn busted in China

Beijing police has busted a factory that had produced about 41,000 fake iPhones in China worth $19 million and have arrested have arrested nine suspects in the counterfeiting operation, according to various media reports.

The fake factory involved repackaging second hand smartphone parts as new iPhones for exports. The factory is owned by a couple, a 43-year old man, surnamed Yu, and his 40-year old wife, surnamed Xie, allegedly set up the Beijing factory with six assembly lines in January.

Beijing police said their investigation followed a tip-off from US authorities who seized some of the fake devices. The fake iPhones were sent overseas to countries including the United States.

Apple Inc is one of the most popular brand in China.
