New Delhi: India on Tuesday proposed forming a joint venture with Turkmenistan to manufacture low-cost tablet 'Aakash' for supply to students in the CIS nation.
Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal, who is on a visit to Turkmenistan, suggested forming a joint venture company which may manufacture Aakash in India, according to an official release.
Indian side will design the necessary hardware and software of the tablet fulfilling the Turkmenistani side needs, it added.
"Besides supplying the low-cost tablets, the joint venture company can market the product to other international markets," he said.
On the second day of his visit to the country, Sibal also offered the host nation help in setting up an education satellite.

Sibal met Turkmenistan's Deputy Chairperson of the Cabinet of Ministers of Education and Information Technologies, Sapardurdy Toyliev, and offered providing support in building infrastructure for better education.
"Promising to provide technology and capacity building initiatives, Sibal offered Government of India's help in setting up Education Satellite for Turkmenistan Children which will be inter -connected to National Knowledge Network," the statement added.
The Minister said this facility can be used by professors from top Indian universities to deliver direct lectures to Turkmenistan Students, it added.
During the meeting, Sibal also offered India's help in setting up International Schools in Turkmenistan.
"Central Board of Secondary Education International (CBSEI) schools may be set up in Turkmenistan where the young students can be imparted education by Indian Teachers who may be deputed from India to Turkmenistan for this purpose," the statement said.
Turkemnistan's Deputy Chairperson of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan on Transport and Communication , Rozymyrat Seyitkulyev and Minister of Communications Bayramgeldi Ovezov were also present at the meet.
"Sibal mentioned that India can offer help to Turkmenistan in setting up their Satellite system, OFC network, GPS network for navigation for Shipping Industry," the statement said.
Yesterday, the Telecom Minister had assured Turkmenistan of all cooperation in the field of information and communications technology for mutual benefit.
