Intel launches Broadwell core processor

The fifth generation Core i3, i5 and i7 processors (with vPro variants) are designed for use in laptops, 2-in-1s, Ultrabooks, Chromebooks, all-in-ones as well as mini PCs.

New Delhi: Intel on Monday launched its fifth generation of Core processors for PCs and laptops, which will offer higher performance, longer battery life and improved features from its fourth-generation chips.

The fifth generation Core i3, i5 and i7 processors (with vPro variants) are designed for use in laptops, 2-in-1s, Ultrabooks, Chromebooks, all-in-ones as well as mini PCs.

Intel said that it expects to start shipping devices from the end of this month. The latest Core chips will support Intel's RealSense 3D technology, allowing manufacturers to provide gesture control, 3D capture and editing capabilities.

The chipsets will support Intel's Wireless Display (WiDi) v.5.1 and WiGig wireless docking technologies as the firm looks to promote a "cord-free" future. Devices are also set to be pre-loaded with Intel's voice assistant which will allow users to wake up machines, control apps and content within the browser using their voice.

The company also said that its new Cherry Trail processor for tablets is now shipping to customers and will be in new products in the first half of the year.

Intel's announcement comes at the start of the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, where Intel and many other tech firms will be announcing new products.
