LinkedIn launches Lookup app to help find coworkers with specific skills

LinkedIn has released a new standalone app, LinkedIn Lookup to help the users find and contact co-workers using criteria ranging from names to skill sets.

The company says it conducted research that suggests many corporate employees feel they could do a better job if they knew how to find out who else in the company had specific skills.

According to The Next Web, LinkedIn's Lookup app allows the users to search for co-workers by name, title, current or past experience, education and specific skills.

After finding the person the users are looking for they can go deeper and check out all the relevant work info that they would find on LinkedIn such as title, work experience, education, top skills, work email address, etc. This works for contacts that the users are not actually connected with on LinkedIn too.

Also, the users can set their contact preferences in the app so allowing co-workers to see their phone number to get in touch. If no preference is set, the app sends an email directly to the linked work email address or they can send a message within Lookup.

The co-workers can message each other even if they have not downloaded Lookup. The messages sent to LinkedIn Inboxes via Lookup do not count towards the number of InMails users receive each month.

The app is now available on iOS.
