New Delhi: MTNL's telecom services have been hit in embassies and five-star hotels, among others, in diplomatic area of Chanakyapuri here following theft of underground cables in the high security zone.

MTNL's services have been hit in upmarket Malcha Marg, SP Marg (including Railway Colony), Bapu Dham, ABH Mess, Embassies at Shantipath, States Bhawan and five star hotels at Sardar Patel Marg and Chanakyapuri, the PSU said in a statement today.

MTNL said that it will take two days to restore telecom services in these areas.

"Underground telephone cable theft occurred near Ethopia Embassy at Shanti Path in the night of 18-19 May 2015," the statement said.

The Australian High Commission and embassies of the US, Russia, China and Japan are some of the key missions located at Shantipath area of Chanakyapuri.

Sardar Patel Marg houses big hotels like Taj Palace and ITC Maurya.

"The restoration work has already been started and it may take at least two days to restore the services in all areas. Inconvenience caused to our subscribers due to cable theft is deeply regretted," MTNL said.
