Telecom Commission clears way for full MNP, likely to be implemented by Mar 31

Telecom Commission has cleared way for full mobile number portability (MNP), which will allow subscribers to shift their mobile service on to the network of any telecom operator throughout the country without changing their cellphone number.

At present, a subscriber can avail such facility within same telecom service circle.

The full MNP is likely expected to be implemented by March 31, 2015.

Telecom regulator TRAI had submitted its recommendations on full mobile number portability on September 25, 2013.

The government in June this year granted in-principle approval to full MNP that allows customers to retain numbers even after switching operator or location.
