Dark clouds loom over Pakistan-India women series, BCCI ask government to decide

New Delhi: Following multiple battles along the LoC between India and Pakistan have stalled all sporting actions between the two nations, with cricket being the most impacted of all.

The latest victim to the on going tension is the series between India and Pakistan's women's teams, which counts towards ICC Women's Championship points. Though, both nations have have until the end of October to play the series, BCCI is yet to accept or reject their take on the series which Pakistan is supposed to host.

As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, an ICC spokesperson that the matter of how the points will be awarded will be referred to the event's technical committee in case the tournament gets forfeit.

PCB are reportedly open to hosting the 3-match series in Dubai, provided India agree the bilateral series.

Commenting on the current scenario, ICC spokesperson said, "The two sides have until the end of this month to play the series, which has to be hosted by Pakistan. If the series doesn't go ahead, then the matter will be referred to the Event Technical Committee."

A BCCI official reverted saying, "This is for the government to decide. The BCCI doesn't have a say in this. We still have time to make a decision."

Eight teams are part of the ICC Women's Championship with the top four sides set to gain automatic entry into the 2017 Women's World Cup in England. The bottom four, however, will have to qualify via a ten-team qualification tournament in early 2017 to book the remaining 4 spots in the World Cup.

India-Pakistan men's teams too have not played a bilateral series against each other since December-January 2012-13, when Pakistan visited India.

Both, however, have met each other in various multi-team tournaments since then, including the World Cup, World T20, Champions Trophy and Asia Cup.
