New Delhi: The 2017 India-Australia series will be over by next week, but the on-field skirmishes have spilt over leaving indelible marks. In the latest installment of Virat Kohli vs Australia saga, a rather reticent Indian cricket board has once again decided to take the issue head-on.
A report in Mumbai Mirror claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) "will take up the Virat issue with the concerned authorities" in the Cricket Australia.
“Vinod Rai made it clear that he would not like to react to every comment. So we will not be provoked by any Twitter posts. But the BCCI will take up the Virat issue with the concerned authorities in the CA,” the report quoted a BCCI source saying.
In the run up to the series decider in Dharamsala, some section of Australian media criticised the Indian captain, and compared him to the controversial president of United States Donald Trump.
Then, CA chief James Sutherland kept the controversy afloat by taking a jibe at Kohli. He sarcastically said that he is sure if Kohli knows how to spell the word 'sorry'.
When asked, during an interview with Adelaide-based radio station FIVEaa, whether Kohli should apologise to Steve Smith for "cheating" allegations, Sutherland said, “I’m not sure he knows how to spell the word (sorry) but perhaps at the end of this long and cut-throat series let’s hope the boys can come together and have a bit of a laugh and reflect on that.”
Kohli had made the allegation during the Bengaluru post match press conference, saying that he had seen the Aussies looking up to the dressing room before opting for a DRS referral on two occasions.
The BCCI defended Kohli in the DRS controversy, but the board has been quiet despite the row failing to die down with persistent attack on Kohli coming from Australian camp.
