India vs England 3rd Test Day 1 Highlights: England have put themselves in a strong position in the opening day of the third Test in Leeds on Wednesday. In response, England openers Haseeb Hameed and Rory Burns completed their respective half-centuries and gave the hosts a perfect start. Burns finished the day batting unbeaten on 52, while his partner Hameed is batting on 58 as England reached 120/0 and have gained a lead of 42 runs.

After electing to bat first, India got off to a poor start as the visitors lost in-form batsman KL Rahul on duck. Following his dismissal, India also lost Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli as both the batsmen edged the ball straight to Jos Buttler.

After his dismissal there was a small 35-run partnership between Rohit Sharma and Rahane, before Robinson ended the partnership in the final over of the opening session as India went into the break reeling at 56/4 at Lunch.

Soon after Lunch, Robinson picked his second wicket of the day and removed wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant on 2. The wickets kept falling for India as Rohit Sharma's 105-ball resistance was brought to an end by Overton, when the batsman went for a pull shot but mistimed it.

The tail which had put on a valiant show in the previous encounter at Lord's, which India won by 151 runs, failed to replicate their show as the Indian innings was wrapped up in just a little over one session.

Meanwhile, Kohli finally won a toss and elected to bat first in the third Test against Joe Root's England. Kohli said he was 'surprised' at winning the toss and chose to bat first as the pitch at Headingley look a good batting strip with not much grass on the surface. India have chose to go with the same playing XI as the second Test at Lord's which means off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will miss out again.

Here's a look at the pitch at Headingley:

England captain Root said that he was not unhappy at losing the toss with a bit of cloud cover over Leeds. The hosts made two changes with Dawid Malan coming in for out-of-form opener Dominic Sibley while Overton replaced an injured paceman Mark Wood.
