Bengaluru: Defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a big blow ahead of their eliminator match against Kolkata Knight Riders as veteran Indian pacer Ashish Nehra was ruled out of the remaining matches.
On the eve of the IPL eliminator clash between SRH and KKR at Chinnaswamy stadium here, Hyderabad's head coach Tom Moody told mediapersons, "Ashish Nehra won't be fit for the remainder of the tournament."
The left-arm pacer was forced off the field with a hamstring strain in a league match against Rising Pune Supergiant on May 6.
It isn't for the first time that Nehra has been ruled out of a match due to an injury as he has appeared in just 6 out of 14 games this year.
Not to forget, another senior batsman in the team, Yuvraj Singh, didn't play the last game after suffering an injury.
However, Moody said that Yuvraj will have to pass the fitness test in order to seal his place for the eliminator.
"Yuvraj will be undergoing a fitness test this evening. We will be giving him obviously the opportunity to prove his fitness," he said.
Yuvraj, who had scored 243 runs in 11 games this IPL, had sustained an injury in his fingers against Mumbai Indians and missed the crucial game against Gujarat.
His absence however did not have much of an impact as SRH defeated GL comprehensively by eight wickets. Chasing a 154-run total, Hyderabad achieved the target in 18.1 overs - thanks to an unbeaten 133-run stand between skipper David Warner (69*) and Vijay Shankar (63*).
