New Delhi: A day after announcing that he will be taking care of the educational expenses of the children of CRPF martyrs of Sukma naxal attack, Gautam Gambhir on Friday donated his IPL man of the match award to the families of the bravehearts.

In their match against visiting Delhi Daredevils, Gambhir scored an unbeaten 52-ball 71 to help the team win by seven wickets, and remained at the top of the IPL table. He was adjudged man of the match for his efforts.

At the post-match presentation, the 35-year-old said that "whatever awards I've earned, all the money goes to CRPF jawans."

Gambhir, who has been vocal about an array of social issues, had tweeted “I picked up newspapers and saw gut-wrenching pictures of the daughters of 2 CRPF men killed in the latest attacks".

He added, "The Gautam Gambhir Foundation will take care of the entire education expenses of the children of these martyrs."

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath‏ took to Twitter to hail Gambhir's generosity. In the tweet, Adityanath‏ wrote that the cricketer's act is a lesson for Indian youth.
