IPL 2017: The plan was to play out Bhuvneshwar Kumar's over but unfortunately I got out, says Manan Vohra

New Delhi: Kings XI Punjab opener Manan Vohra on Monday played one of the best innings in the history of the Indian Premier League. The Punjab batsman, who has been an integral part of the franchise, scored 95 runs off just 50 balls and almost single-handedly pulled off the chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

While wickets fell at regular intervals, Vohra continued to find boundaries every now and then but was finally dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the 19th over of the innings.

After the match, Vohra revealed that the plan was to see through the penultimate over bowled by Bhuvneshwar but he was trapped in front of the wicket.

"The message was also very clear from the dressing room that play out this over you can charge in the next one. I just planned that I will knock him around for a one but unfortunately I missed that ball and it got into the pads," Vohra was quoted as saying by IPLT20.com.

He also added that having played in IPL for five years now, he was desperate to convert a start into a big score.

"I tried to focus a bit hard. It's been now fifth year of me playing this IPL. I have never being converting so well. I just wanted to go through, bat for around 14-15 overs, because I knew that if I play that many overs, I will convert the runs and it would be better for the team," he added.

Chasing a decent 158-run target, Vohra was the only batsman from his team to put up a fight as established names collapsed like a pack of cards.

After winning their first two matches of the tournament, KXIP are currently ranked fifth in the points table with two wins from five matches.

They will now take on Mumbai Indians in their next match on April 20.
