New Delhi: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Anurag Thakur on Tuesday lauded Karun Nair on his brilliant 303-run knock against England, but also heaped praise on Indian cricket legend Rahul Dravid for grooming youngsters at the Under-19 level.
Thakur said that it was due to the efforts of Dravid as the coach of the India Under-19 team that the youngsters were being able to perform well for the national team.
"I congratulate India team for this extraordinary performance. Young Karun Nair, in his third innings, at the age of 25, has scored a triple century which is a big big achievement. Heartiest congratulations. It is the hard wiork which has been put by these young cricketers, but also the efforts of Rahul Dravid, who has been bestowed the responsibility of nurturing them under 19 and India A sides, which gives them the platform to do well at that level. And when they come to Team India at the national level, they try and give their best," he said.
Thakur also said that while Dravid was doing a great job as Under-19 coach, the players are doing well under Virat Kohli's captaincy as well.
"I think they are groomed well under Rahul Dravid. And when they played under the captaincy of Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble who is the coach, I think they are doing extremely well. Our initiative to give them a platform under India A is helping them," he said.
Notably, Nair became the first Indian cricketer to convert his maiden Test century into a triple ton in the traditional format. He also joined an elite club, where he became the only second Indian cricketer after Virender Sehwag to score a triple century in Tests.
