Licences of 23 firecracker traders in Delhi-NCR cancelled

Licences of 23 firecracker traders here have been cancelled by the district authorities in accordance with the Supreme Court order, an official said today.

Muzaffarnagar: Licences of 23 firecracker traders here have been cancelled by the district authorities in accordance with the Supreme Court order, an official said today.

"The licences were cancelled yesterday and they have been barred from manufacturing, selling and stocking firecrackers," said District Magistrate DK Singh.

In a bid to curb air pollution in Delhi-NCR, the Apex Court had, on November 25 last year, suspended the licences of all firecracker sellers in the region, virtually banning their sale, purchase and stocking.

The Apex Court had also directed the Centre to not renew any such licences till further orders.

"Strict action will be taken against those found manufacturing and selling crackers in future also," said Singh.
