New Delhi: Bhatinda airport was inaugurated by deputy CM Sukhbir Badal in presence of Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Union minister of state for civil aviation Jayant Sinha, Union minister for food processing industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and her husband.
The airport is located at village Virk Kalan, more than 20 kilometres from Bathinda, over 40 acres of land with a cost of Rs 25 crore.
The terminal has been developed using glass and steel to allow maximum use of natural light.
Bathinda Airport has a 2,800 metre runway, the apron is only capable of accommodating two fifty-seater aircraft. The airport has amenities which would cater to traffic flow of two ATR aircrafts.
The Delhi-Bathinda flight would take around 90 minutes. The flight will take off at 12:15 noon from Delhi and will arrive at 1:45 pm in Bhatinda, and return the same day after stoppage of half an hour at 2.15pm to reach Delhi at 3.45pm.
Air alliance, a subsidiary of public carrier Air India, flights will run from Bathinda thrice a week every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
The Delhi-Bhatinda flight fare has been kept at Rs 2,500 per passenger one way and booking has already started, an official said.
