NCERT textbooks: Madras HC issues notice to Centre for quashing CBSE circular

The Madras High Court on Friday issued notice to the Centre on a plea for quashing a circular issued by the Regional Officer, CBSE, Chennai, asking students to buy textbooks published by private publishers instead of those by the National Council for Educational Research and Training.

Chennai: The Madras High Court on Friday issued notice to the Centre on a plea for quashing a circular issued by the Regional Officer, CBSE, Chennai, asking students to buy textbooks published by private publishers instead of those by the National Council for Educational Research and Training.

Disposing of a plea by an advocate M Purushothaman, Justice N Kirubakaran directed the Centre to consider his representation.

The judge directed Assistant Solicitor General Su. Sreenivasan, who took notice on behalf of the Centre, to file his reply within four weeks.

There are so many issues involved with regard to the CBSE books, the judge said and posted the matter for further hearing after four weeks.
