This is the first time that the NIRF ranked institutes in the architecture category. Along with architecture, medical colleges and law colleges were also ranked by the ministry for the first time.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has been ranked as the best institute for Architecture as per the Human Resource and Development (HRD) Ministry's National Institutional Ranking Framework 2018 released on Tuesday. Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and School of Planning and Architecture in Delhi have been ranked at the second and third spot respectively.  

This is the first time that the NIRF ranked institutes in the architecture category. Along with architecture, medical colleges and law colleges were also ranked by the ministry for the first time. As per the data, All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi holds the top spot for medical studies while the National Law School of India University in Bengaluru topped in the law category. Among the top 10 institutes overall in the country are Indian Institute of Science (IISC) in Bengaluru, six IITs in Madras, Bombay, Delhi, Kharagpur, Kanpur and Roorkee, JNU, BHU and Anna University in Chennai.

Here are the top 10 institutes in the country for Architecture as per the NIRF data:

3) School of Planning and Architecture New Delhi
4) College of Engineering Trivandrum
5) School of Planning and Architecture Bhopal
6) Anna University
7) JNAFAU School of Planning and Architecture
8) Jamia Millia Islamia
9) National Institute of Technology Hamirpur
10) Faculty of Architecture, Manipal Academy of Higher Education

The rankings for 2018 were released by the HRD Ministry on Tuesday. The announcement was made by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar along with Minister of state HRD Satya Pal Singh at Delhi's Vigyan Bhawan. While the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) in Bengaluru was adjudged the overall best institution in the country, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Madras and Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad topped in the engineering category and management categories.
