Govardhan Puja: Timing and Ritual

New Delhi: Coming right on the heels of the Indian festival Deepawali, Govardhan Puja is celebrated to enunciate the victory of lord Krishna over Indra.

Krishna defeated Indra by lifting the Govardhan hill.

This auspicious day is celebrated on the fourth day of Deepawali.

The day is celebrated on the first lunar day of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu calendar month of Kartik.

12 November, 2015 is the day of Govardhan puja. Following is the mahurat for puja:

Timings:

Govardhan Puja Pratahkal Muhurat = 06:16 to 08:26

Duration = 2 Hours 10 Mins

Govardhan Puja Sayankal Muhurat = 14:57 to 17:07

Duration = 2 Hours 10 Mins

Govardhan puja is also known as Annakut Puja. Food made of wheat, rice, gram flour and vegetables can be cooked and offered to Lord Krishna. Sometimes the Govardhan puja falls on the same day of Gujarati New Year.
