London: Joe McElderry has landed his first major theatrical role in a tour of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat".

The former "X Factor" winner's real name is Joseph so it's a perfect fit for the singer, who will also appear in a Blackpool performance of Tommy this month, reported Digital Spy.

McElderry, 24, will play Joseph in theatres across the UK from spring 2016, with full dates and venues to be announced in the near future.

Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit musical continues to be hugely popular after debuting nearly 35 years ago, with classic songs including "Any Dream Will Do" and "Close Every Door".

McElderry has made a name for himself as a serial TV talent show winner, having triumphed in "The X Factor", "Popstar to Operastar" and "The Jump".
