Mumbai: Hugely popular for his experimental cinema, Bollywood’s offbeat director Anurag Kashyap is facing tough times as the maverick filmmaker is asked by Arun Dutt (Guru Dutt’s son) to tone down the controversial facts about his father’s personal life in the upcoming biopic.

According to latest Bollywood news, the untitled project will be focusing on Guru Dutt’s failed marriage with Geeta Dutt and his alleged affair with co-star Waheeda Rehman. The flick will be directed by Shivendra Dungarpur.

Talking to a news daily, a source said, “It is natural for Arun to tell Anurag that he can’t go all out in his script. Certain portions, if not handled well, might turn out to be in bad taste.”

When enquired, Arun confirmed the news and said that he had laid down certain dos and don’ts regarding his father’s biopic. He said, “I don’t want the personal details to be sensationalised. Otherwise, I have no problem. Shivendra has done a lot of research on my father and this film is very close to his heart. Munni Kabir (a writer and TV producer) wants to make a film on my dad too. That will focus around 1957, when my dad made ‘Pyaasa.’ But Anurag’s script focuses on my dad’s entire life.”

Meanwhile, the source added that when Kashyap finishes the script, he will show it to Arun as “He will ask Kashyap to incorporate changes.”
