Mumbai: Veteran filmmaker-actor Satish Kaushik will be teaming up with Kundan Shah for the sequel to 1983 cult-comedy ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’.

Produced by National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ is one of the most remarkable satirical comedy, Indian cinema has ever seen.

Satish Kaushik, who had penned the dialogues for the classic comedy essayed the role of Ashok Namboodiripad in the original. He would be reprising the same role in the sequel.

Kundan Shah had won the 1984 Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director for his work. The film was part of the NFDC Retrospective at India International Film Festival in 2006.

Talking about the film, Kaushik said, “ ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ is going to be very different journey. Sometime for great work you need the hunger and dedication. Now we are all settled. So it going to be a big challenge, not just for the actors but for the writers, director and everyone associated with the project. But we have immense faith in Kundan Shah. It’s also a moment of great nostalgia for me as Neeraj has asked me to help him with the script. However, I haven`t been asked to be a part of dialogue writing process. But I am completely with the film and hope for the best for it."

‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ was a satirical take on corruption in Indian politics and the overall socio-political-economic state of affairs.

The original cast included Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapoor Satish Shah, Bhakti Barve and Neena Gupta besides Satish Kaushik. The sequel will be produced by Neeraj Vora.
