Bollywood & Beyond to showcase off-beat Hindi films

New York: Hollywood director Michael Bay has been attacked on the set of his latest `Transformers` movie in Hong Kong.

Melbourne: Hindi film lovers will now get a chance to watch off-beat Bollywood movies under the new initiative?of the Melbourne based film distribution company, Mind Blowing Films, called 'Bollywood and Beyond.'

Mind Blowing Films, a leading Indian film distributor that also organises the annual Bollywood Film festival here, kicked off its new effort by holding a special screening of Anand Gandhi's 'Ship of Theseus.'

The screening was attended by the well known Australian film director Paul Cox, who is soon going to shoot his next film in India next year.

MBF's Director, Mitu Bhowmick Lange said with the growing Indian diaspora Down Under and Bollywood fever catching up across Australia, the time was right to introduce the Indian parallel cinema.

"We thought there was a need to showcase that Bollywood is not all about masala movies, song and dances. Bollywood is also about a different cinema which is meaningful and sensitive.

"We have been getting lots of request to bring in off-beat and regional movies in Australia and 'Bollywood and Beyond' is just a part of that," Lange said.
The MBF's 'Bollywood and Beyond' will screen 'Shahid' today across Australia in over 6 cinema halls.

"The audience for such films is not very huge when you compare it to a masala movie. So, we have planned to keep the number of screens for such films to only 6-7 across Australia," Lange said.

"Our aim is to showcase and generate awareness about the Indian parallel cinema. So, profit making is not on our mind right now. Such off-beat movies have been and will be a part of our annual Film festival but one can now watch it outside the festival as well," she added.
