‘Chance Pe Dance’ runs into rough waters, courtesy movie title

Mumbai: Director Ken Gosh is on a contemplative mode ever since he planned to choose a name for his new movie. After selecting ‘Star’ and ‘Yahoo’, the Shahid and Genelia starrer flick was finally named ‘Chance Pe Dance.’ Yet, the film has run into legal trouble with its title violating the copyright laws.

According to the latest B-town buzz, the title is one of the phrases from Sujoy Ghosh’s ‘Jhankaar Beats.’ Nevertheless, with phrases from songs taken as title as far back as ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, it is quite odd to find that a phrase has baan dragged into copyright violation row.

Talking to a news daily, a livid producer of ‘Jhankaar Beats’, Pritish Nandy, said, "This is a copyright violation! But how do we fight it? People need to possess some kind of ethics and a sense of responsibility. As far as we PNC (Pritish Nandy Communications) are concerned, we can think of a hundred better titles."

However, Sujoy Ghosh, the director of ‘Jhankaar Beats’ was completely cool and said, "If Ken found a dialogue from my film good enough to be his title, I am flattered. In fact, that`s just one phrase. But Abhishek Kapoor`s ‘Rock On’ was in mood, theme and even individual scenes quite like ‘Jhankaar Beats’. And I loved it! I`d look at the title ‘Chance Pe Dance’ as a homage to ‘Jhankaar Beats’."

When enquired, Ken Ghosh replied guardedly, "Yes, I am aware ‘Chance Pe Dance’ was used in ‘Jhankaar Beats’. I`ve also heard friends using the phrase ‘mauka pe chauka.’"
