New Delhi: Ranveer Singh – who is popular for being flamboyant – followed Dev Anand’s classic films to prepare for his role in ‘Lootera’, a period film that demanded the actor to emote with his eyes.

The Bollywood newbie was asked to watch Dev Anand’s old classics to help himself mellow down for the intense character in Vikramaditya Motwane’s next.

“When the actor was signed for Vikramaditya Motwane’s next film, there were certain changes needed of him. The movie being a period film demanded the actor to emote through his eyes,” a tabloid quoted a source as saying.

“Dev Anand was known for his splendid emotional display through his eyes alone and the director wanted Ranveer to do the same. The film has a highly emotional storyline,” the source added.

"Lootera is a tribute to 50s. We have styled our romance on Dev Anand," said a spokesperson for the film.

Ranveer has been romantically paired with Sonakshi Sinha in ‘Lootera’ – which will hit theaters on July 5, 2013. It has been partially adapted from O’Henry’s short story ’The Last Leaf’. The period film has been shot mainly in the old world charm of Kolkata and Dalhousie.
