London: NBC's "Revolution" will return as a new digital comic book series.

The DC Comics project, which will be available to fans in May, will wrap up story lines left open-ended when the science fiction series was cancelled last year, reported Digital Spy.

The writing team behind the series recently reunited to write the final four chapters of the story, which will be released exclusively on ComicBook.Com.

The first chapter will be released on May 4, with subsequent installments following every two weeks. DC Comics artist Angel Hernandez has designed four special covers for the series.

"Revolution" creator and executive producer Eric Kripke paid tribute to the show's fans for campaigning hard for a proper conclusion to the series.

He wrote: "The loyalty you've shown Revolution these past months has been touching and overwhelming - it's meant more to me than you'll ever know.

"And solely because of your efforts, we wanted to pay you back - to give you something fantastic.

"And while, unfortunately, we simply can't make more episodes of the show (alas, there are financial realities we can't overcome), we can do the next best thing. Which is end the story. On our terms. Exactly the way we would have."

"Revolution" starred Billy Burke and Tracy Spiridakos, and was set in a distant future in which humanity has been engulfed in a permanent blackout.

Following the show's cancellation, producer and director Jon Favreau shared his feelings on the show's axe, saying that it was not "fun" to see it come to such an "abrupt end".
