South Korean author Han Kang wins Man Booker International Prize, shares award money with translator

New Delhi: For the first time this year, the winner of Man Booker International Prize has shared the grand prize money with her translator.

According to AFP, 45-year old Han Kang from South Korea has bagged the Man Booker International Prize for her book 'The Vegetarian' which is based on the protagonist who wants to ditch the human race and become a plant.

Judge Boyd Tonkin described it as 'lyrical and lacerating.'

Han Kang shared the prize money  £50,000 ($72,000) with her translator who learned Korean three years ago.

'The Vegetarian' beat six other books including 'The Story of the Lost Child', by Italian sensation Elena Ferrante, 'A Strangeness in My Mind', by Turkey's Orhan Pamuk.
