'Big Lebowski' star David Huddleston dies

Actor David Huddleston, best known for his performances in films like "The Big Lebowski" and "Blazing Saddles", has died. He was 85.

Los Angeles: Actor David Huddleston, best known for his performances in films like "The Big Lebowski" and "Blazing Saddles", has died. He was 85.

The actor died on Tuesday of heart and kidney disease in Santa Fe, New Mexico, according to his wife Sarah, said the Hollywood Reporter.

Huddleston will be best known for playing a multimillionaire, who shared the same last name as the film's protagonist, Jeff 'the dude' Lebowski (Jeff Bridges) in the Coen Brothers' comedy classic. Julianne Moore portrayed his daughter.

Hiddleston made his breakthrough as a funny but vicious gang leader in 1972 film "Bad Company". He went on to star in more than 60 movies in his career.

The actor's other memorable performances include "Rio Lobo", "McQ", "Fools' Parade", "Family Reunion", "Billy Two Hats" and "Santa Claus".

His last onscreen appearances came in 2010 as Danny DeVito's old business partner on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia".

Hiddleston had an equally impressive stage career playing Benjamin Franklin on Broadway besides starring in "Death of a Salesman".

The actor is survived by his wife, son and daughter-in-law.
