Mumbai: Actor Ranvir Shorey feels he is no expert on parenting in real life, but says one should not be tough while dealing with kids.
Ranvir has a four-year-old son - Haroon, with actress Konkona Sen Sharma. The couple recently announced their separation.
"I am no expert on parenting. My son is four-year-old, so I am fresh father. Since, I have become a parent.. I feel if you sit down and get through your child and use one's understanding to teach them something.. Is the easiest way," Ranvir told PTI.
The 43-year-old actor, who enjoys a fair share of both critically-acclaimed and hit commercial films, says corporal punishment is most "flawed" form of teaching to children.
"I think corporal punishment is the shortest, most impatient, flawed way of teaching or making a child understand something. If you hit a child, he or she will not learn anything," he added.
Even as a child, Ranvir said, he used get thrashed by his brothers. "I had two elder brothers and they would thrash me if I do something wrong, then dad would thrash me. I think corporal punishment as disciplining the child is what I am questioning.. I feel there are less flawed methods."
The "Mithya" actor will be next seen in crime drama "Titli" set in a Delhi slum, and is about a family engaged in car-jacking. The film will release this Friday.
Considering that he has gone through similar experiences in real life, it was easy for Ranvir to do essay his part.
"It was easy doing this role. When I had read the script I was blown away it affected me at a personal level. Even while we were shooting or doing workshop it had emotional effect on me. It reminded me of my young days."
According to Ranvir, "Titli" is a commercial film. "I think 'Titli' is a commercial film in a way. It is an honest film. Nobody here has done the film thinking about money. Cinema is a craft and to make a film you need certain amount of money, be it big or small," he said.
The "Bheja Fry" actor said he wants to be part of 'honest films' be it mainstream films or art house cinema.
"I think cinema is about honest story telling. There is imbalance between mainstream cinema and art house cinema, and in between is my world. For me, an honest film matters, be it art (film) or commercial," he added.
Directed Kanu Behl, "Titli" also stars Shashank Arora, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Amit Sial, Lalit Behl and releases on October 30.
