Los Angeles: Comedienne Joan Rivers has been moved out of the intensive care unit at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital and has been placed into a private room.

The 81-year-old controversial television personality has been hospitalised since August 28, after she suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest during a routine throat operation at a nearby clinic, reported Fox News.

Rivers was placed in a medically-induced coma and remains on life support, but her daughter Melissa has informed fans her mother has been moved to a private room and is resting comfortably.

A statement from Melissa read, "My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable. Thank you for your continued support."
