London: Troubled golfer Tiger Woods` wife Elin Nordegren has hired a private detective to probe the extent of his wealth.
A news website reports that Nordegren, who plans to divorce Woods in California rather than Florida due to the state`s more generous laws, wants to know exactly what he is worth.
"Elin knows hiring a Private Investigator is a smart move. Her lawyers want to make sure she gets every penny she`s entitled to. Elin is devastated, but now she`s decided to end their marriage she has the future of their children to think about," said a source.
She has also hired Sorrell Trope, 82, a partner in Californian law firm Trope and Trope who has represented stars like Nicole Kidman, Nicolas Cage and Britney Spears.
Woods, 33, the world`s highest-paid sportsman, is thought to be worth almost USD 1 billion and has mansions in Florida and California.
As his fortune is spread across the globe, it makes estimating his true worth difficult.
Finance expert David Marchant of offshoreAlert.com said: "Tiger will be hiding money legally in tax havens."
