Jean Paul Gaultier says farewell to fashion

London: Designer Jean Paul Gaultier is saying goodbye to his ready-to-wear collection to focus on other parts of the fashion brand, and for his final show he paid tribute to fashion editors.

To celebrate this, the 62-year-old ace designer sent models down the runway at the ongoing Pris Fashion Week, channelling the five famed fashion figures iconic looks, reportedly. The designer replicated the images of prolific editors who have championed his work.

The looks of French Vogue's Emmanuelle Alt, Italian Vogue's Franca Sozzani, US Vogue's Grace Coddington, former French Vogue editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld and British fashion journalist Suzy Menkes all made an appearance on the catwalk.

The elaborate farewell show also featured a mock beauty pageant, of which model Coco Rocha was crowned the winner. The legendary designer recently revealed he wanted to put a stop to the collections in order to focus his attention on the label's fragrances, haute couture and other unspecified projects.

"After more than 38 years spent producing men's and women's ready-to-wear collections, it seems to us that the time has come to stop some of our activities and to concentrate principally on the development of the haute couture, of perfumes and to certain collaborations that I have not yet had time to explore," he had said.

"For some time, I have found true fulfilment in working on the haute couture and it allows me to express my creativity and my taste for research and experimentation. "This is a new beginning; I will be able to express again my creativity fully and without constraints," he added.
