Mumbai: TV actor Sharad Kelkar says content has become diverse on the small screen as besides daily soaps a lot of "progressive" shows are being made today.
"The content is a lot more diverse than before on television. Earlier it was just soap operas that were being made and watched but now there is so much that audiences can choose from. There are channels and shows that cater to a more progressive mindset of audience," Sharad told PTI.
The 38-year-old actor known for his performances in serials like "Saat Phere - Saloni Ka Safar" and "Kuch Toh Log Kahenge", is back on the small screen with "Agent Raghav" after being part of films like Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Ram Leela" and Riteish Deshmukh "Lai Bhaari".
"I am a restless soul. I am always in pursuit of something different and intriguing. So, instead of doing the same roles over and over again I decided to wait and take it slow.
"Films such as 'Lai Bhaari' and 'Ram Leela' kept me occupied so I couldn't dedicate the kind of time television demands. Most of the TV offers I was getting clashed with my film assignments so I had to let go of a few shows as well," he said.
Sharad will be seen essaying the character of Raghav Sinha, who works with the special unit of Crime Branch, in his upcoming show.
"The premise of the show and my character attracted me to be part of the show. The protagonist Raghav Sinha doesn't use his muscle but brain to solve cases. He uses observation, deduction, and sharp intuitions to solve the most complex crime cases," Sharad said.
"He (the character) is smart, stylish, and his weapon is words not guns. Also, it's a crime thriller and I haven't dabbled in this genre yet," he said.
Sharad thinks "Agent Raghav" is a different take on crime series as in the past such shows, except "Karamchand" and "Byomkesh Bakshi", used more brawns than brains to crack cases.
"More importance is given to action rather than mind skills. This is where 'Agent Raghav' is different," he adds. The show premieres from today and it will be seen every Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm on &TV.
