Copyright issue puts 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' release on hold in Pakistan

Karachi: Only few days are left for the release of 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' but since the copyrights issue regarding the film are still ongoing, the Central board of Pakistan (CBFC) has put the certification of the movie on hold.

Until the legal matters featured by EMI Pakistan related to the famous qawwali sung by Adnan Sami, are sorted, the movie won't hit the theatres in India's neighbouring country, the Express Tribune reported.

Producers of the film to CBFC Pakistan were given a copy of legal notice by EMI Pakistan, following which CBFC requested Satish Anand, CEO of Eveready Pictures to clear out legal matters with EMI Pakistan as emphasised in the legal notice.

Mobashir Hasan, chairman central board of the film, disclosed that the as per 1979 Copyright act, certificate for the film would be issued only when both parties declare that the legal dispute surrounding the movie is resolved.

Anand responded to CBFC's request by providing them with an affidavit proclaiming that if the matter is not resolved in due time then the qawwali shall be removed from the movie.

However, EMI Pakistan has denied the offer to sort the matter by evacuating the qawwali from the movie.

The matter is most likely to be sorted internally and 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' will be released in Pakistan.
