Los Angeles: Filmmaker David Ayer is reportedly lined up to direct a 'Suicide Squad' film.

The director is the top choice for Warner Bros' long-rumoured DC Comics adaptation, according to Variety.

The film is yet to be officially announced, but is rumoured to be one of the several mystery DC films scheduled for release up until 2020.

The 'Suicide Squad' are a group of villains and criminals forced by the US government into service as a disposable black ops team.

They are led by the amoral government operative Dr Amanda Waller.

Ayer directed 'Street Kings' and 'End of Watch'. His most recent project 'Fury' - starring Brad Pitt and Logan Lerman - will be released in October.
